What is a Filler Strip?

Filler StripA filler strip is a piece of wood or plastic that is used to cover an opening or gaps in woodworking. Filler strips may be fluted or beaded.

A filter strip is a piece of wood that is placed over any gaps in cabinetry or furniture. The strip may have a fluted or beaded design, and some strips are reversible. Filler strips are available in standard sizes, although many carpenters create their own strips to match their specific needs. It is important in cabinetry to use filler strips that are made from the same wood or material as the rest of the cabinets or furniture. Filler strips are available to match almost all wood types and finishes that are used for cabinets, and they are fairly easy to install. A filler strip can be secured with adhesives, nails, screws or bolts. Filler strips can also serve as chair rails in offices or as an alternative to molding along floors and ceilings.
