Using Mirrors To Make Your Rooms Appear Bigger
Mirror

How do you solve the life long problem of making your rooms bigger? You could embark on a renovation; maybe you could even sell your home and purchase a new one. While these options may solve the ever lasting issue of space, they are not practical. There are little tricks that, with just a few bucks, can help create the image or more space.

Strategically placing mirrors in your rooms will help make your rooms look larger. Whether it is a kitchen, bathroom, or bedroom, the existence of a mirror can work wonders for your tiny floor plan. First, stick with light colors for the walls. Decorating your home follows similarly to the rules of dress. Wearing black makes you look thinner, but white makes you appear larger. So in this case, larger is better, so you should opt for light shades.

Once you have your walls painted, select a mirror. Depending on the room will determine the size and style of the mirror you choose. If you are trying to make your kitchen look larger, try to purchase as big a mirror as your space will permit. Hang the mirror opposite your light source, whether it is a window, door, or lighting. This will help reflect the light in the room, creating the illusion of more space.

Where there’s a will, there’s a way. There is no need for you to throw out kitchen furniture and get rid of pieces to create more space. By adding mirrors to your kitchen, bathroom, or bedroom, you can create the feel that the room is larger than it is.

Today islands are a staple in most kitchens. Many home owners want either the extra work space or additional seating. While the kitchen table, kitchen cabinets, and chairs have not been replaced, you still need to purchase seating so your guests can enjoy your island. Bar stools have proven to be the best choice.

Being as the counter top of an island is much higher than the height of a standard kitchen table, typical chairs will not suffice. Bar stools are the appropriate height for comfortable eating at the island. There are tons of different styles to choose from.

If you are looking to go as cheap and as simple as possible, try looking at unfinished, wood stools. Depending on your preference you can either purchase a stool with no back or one with a back. Keep in mind that backless stools are comfortable for short amounts of time, but if you are looking to have your guests thoroughly enjoy sitting at your island, you may want to purchase something with a little support.

There are also bar stools that are offered upholstered, so you can get a typical wood stool with a cushioned seat. This not only offers more comfort, but it also enhances the design aspect. You can either purchase bar stools that match your kitchen table and chairs, or you pick a contrasting color. The contrasting color will work best if your entire kitchen has the same sort of color throughout. This will break up the scheme. If you are already working with tons of colors and textures, try matching the stools to your existing set.

As times are changing, and families are migrating from the kitchen table to the island, you have to change with the times. By simply adding three bar stools to your island you are increasing your number of guests, and I always say, “the more the merrier!”

As you know remodeling your bathroom can add a chunk of money to the value of your home whether you are looking to sell now or later. Sometimes the money just is not there for you to start a project, so how can you add value to your home while saving money on a renovation? Add new, smaller fixtures to your bathroom that will change the design drastically.

Say goodbye to the pedestal sink! The days of no storage and unpractical, free standing sinks are over, unless you have a spare powder room! Be practical and stylish and replace your existing sink with some bathroom furniture and a bowl sink. Bowl sinks are very popular in bathroom design; they are exactly that, a sink that looks like a bowl! This sink sits completely on top of the counter, and it is typically made from glass. They come in a variety of colors and designs. For a traditional look, infuse dark, cherry cabinetry with a black and white bowl sink. If you are looking to go country, opt for oak furniture and a white or ivory bowl sink. There are numerous ways to mix and match your furniture, faucet, and sink, so you can create a look that is perfectly aligned with your taste.

By adding bathroom cabinets to your bathroom you are creating an up to date look, adding storage, and increasing the value of your home. So if you are looking to sell, reevaluate your asking price, and if you are staying, enjoy the new addition!
